Madison Bumgarner’s snotrocket totals from today’s game vs. the St. Louis Cardinals (in St. Louis):
10 snotrockets (SNR): 2 vs. left-handed batters, 6 vs. right-handed batters, 2 other. 2 double SNR. Other Bumgarner snotrocket totals of note:
- Bumgarner’s most prolific innings were the 1st and 3rd in which he blew 3 snotrockets per inning.
- Bumgarner blew at least 1 SNR in every inning he pitched today.
- Today’s game marks the 14th time this season that Madison Bumgarner has reached double digits in snotrockets.
Some explanation about the snotrocket statistics I keep: “SNR” is an abbreviation for snotrockets. “Other” represents any Bumgarner snotrockets that are not blown while facing a batter. This would include pre-game, between batters, at-bat, on-base, dugout and post-game snotrockets. A “double” snotrocket means both nostrils were included in the snotrocketing (first one nostril and then the other).
Double SNR can occur at any time; versus a batter, while in the dugout, at-bat, etc. For example, in today’s game Bumgarner blew his first double SNR at 11:31 AM (Pacific) while facing Adam Wainwright in the 3rd inning. Bumgarner’s second double SNR came while he was out on the mound at 12:15 PM, in the 5th inning, while in-between batters.
Most of Bumgarner’s double SNR have come while facing batters, or while in-between batters. I’ve yet to see a double dugout SNR. I am breathlessly awaiting one of these rare beauties.
I believe Bumgarner’s next start will be on Tuesday, August 14, at home, versus the Nationals. Maybe Tuesday will be the night to see my first double dugout snotrocket. One can always dream.
